THIS WEEK'S OBSESSION

Growing Up Is Optional

Hero of the Seas

August 21, 2027

Confession Time...

I have absolutely zero business being this excited about a cruise I'm not even sailing.

I'll actually be heading to Alaska two days later (which, admittedly, is a pretty great consolation prize 😂).

But that hasn't stopped me from watching every video I can find, reading everything I can get my hands on, and mentally decorating the cabin I don't have.

Some people binge Netflix.

Apparently, I binge cruise ships.

And Hero of the Seas has completely captured my attention.

Now, before we go any further, let's get one thing out of the way:

Everyone keeps talking about the fact that it's the biggest cruise ship in the world.

Cool.

But honestly?

That's not what I think is most interesting.

The interesting part is that Royal Caribbean looked at every type of vacation imaginable and basically said...

"Sure. Let's put all of them on one ship."

Waterparks?

Yep.

Quiet places to sit with a book and watch the ocean?

Also yes.

Family adventures?

Absolutely.

Cocktails while listening to live music?

Of course.

Broadway-style entertainment?

Yep.

Pools, slides, sunsets, neighborhoods to explore, trivia games, comedy shows, incredible restaurants, and enough things to do that you'll probably need another vacation when you get home?

Also yes.

Which brings me to my first little cruise hot take.

I don't actually think Hero of the Seas is for everyone.

(Stick with me before you throw tomatoes. 🍅😂)

If your dream vacation is finding the quietest corner of a ship and disappearing with a good book for seven days...

There are other ships I'd probably recommend first.

Can you find peaceful spaces onboard Hero?

Absolutely.

Can you sip coffee on your balcony while the ocean stretches to the horizon and the rest of the ship disappears?

You sure can.

But Hero isn't really about escaping the world.

It's about saying yes to every possibility.

It's for families making core memories.

It's for grandparents racing grandchildren down waterslides.

It's for couples who spend the morning relaxing in the Solarium and the evening singing along to live music.

It's for the traveler who doesn't want to choose between excitement and relaxation because they'd really like both, thank you very much.

And somehow...

Hero pulls that off.

Now let's talk about something that comes up every single time I mention an August Caribbean cruise.

"Hurricane season."

**Deep breath**

Yes, August falls during hurricane season.

No, that doesn't mean your cruise is doomed.

Cruise lines have entire teams monitoring weather around the clock and they'll adjust itineraries whenever they need to keep guests safe.

Sometimes ports change.

Sometimes you get an unexpected extra sea day.

Very occasionally, sailings are impacted in bigger ways.

It's simply part of traveling this time of year.

It's also one of the reasons I will forever recommend protecting your vacation with travel insurance.

I hope you never need it.  But if you do...

You'll be incredibly glad you have it.

And honestly?

The Caribbean in late summer is stunning.

The water looks like someone turned the saturation up too high.

The sunsets are ridiculous.

And if Mother Nature cooperates, it's hard to imagine a prettier place to spend a week.

So...

Would I recommend Hero of the Seas?

Absolutely.

To everyone?

Nope.

And I think that's exactly what makes it so special.

The best cruise isn't the biggest one.

It isn't the newest one.

It isn't the most expensive one.

It's the one that makes you think...

"I cannot wait to wake up there."

And if Hero makes you feel that way...

I completely understand.

One Last Obsession...

If you've made it all the way to the bottom of this page, I have a sneaking suspicion you're already mentally packing.

(It's okay. I do it too. 😂)

Here's the part that probably belongs somewhere higher up in the article, but where's the fun in that?

I have group space reserved on this sailing, which often means pricing that's better than what you'll find booking directly with the cruise line.

But honestly?

The pricing is only part of it.

You also get me...The person who gets way too excited about cruise ships, watches for price drops after you book, reminds you when it's time to check in, helps you figure out which cabin makes the most sense, and generally makes sure you don't have to Google every little thing before your vacation.

Basically...

I obsess over the details so you can obsess over deciding which swimsuit to pack.

If Hero has found its way onto your own obsession list, click Let's Start Planning and we'll see what's possible.

Worst case scenario?

We spend a few minutes talking about cruises.

And if you've read this far, I'm pretty sure neither of us would consider that time wasted. 💙🚢

**Before You Go...**

Thank you.

Really.

The internet is full of distractions, and the fact that you chose to spend a few minutes daydreaming about cruise ships with me means more than you probably realize.

The Obsessive Traveler was never meant to be just another travel website.

It's my little corner of the internet where I get to share the places that make me stop scrolling, the ships that keep me up researching "just one more thing," and the adventures I can't stop thinking about.

Some weeks you'll find me obsessing over a brand-new ship.

Other weeks it'll be a tiny Caribbean beach, an Alaska glacier, or the best cinnamon roll I've ever eaten at sea.

I hope you'll stick around and explore a little longer.

Read another feature.

Dream about a destination you've never considered.

Or maybe even find the cruise that makes you say, "I can't wait to wake up there."

And if our paths happen to cross onboard one day...

I have a feeling we'll have plenty to talk about.

Until then...

Thanks for dreaming with me. 💙⚓

Currently obsessing over: finding my next cruise, Caribbean sunsets, and convincing my husband that "just one more sailing" is a perfectly reasonable life choice.
